Social Media Competitions query

Hi all,
It seems lately (especially over the last few months), that the comps posted are increasingly social media ones. As someone who doesn't do social media, I therefore can't do Twitter/Facebook/Instagram competitions, and lately I've found that I can go through several pages of listed competitions without finding any I can enter. :(

I have debated whether to open Twitter or Facebook accounts purely for comping, but I've read quite a few comments on here from people having issues with comping only accounts, and I'm really not wanting to do this.

I'm posting really to ask people's opinions - are general internet competitions pretty much disappearing now, or is it that many of the people who post comps on the forum maybe only deal with social media?

I must say a huge thanks to everyone who post competitions, especially all the magazine ones! :T:T:T

I use twitter for mostly comping and not had any problems. It is very useful and lists a lot of comps for me so I don’t miss them!

My only social media accounts are for comping, I have had no issues with any of them and one of my larger wins (£2k+) came from there although that was 6 years ago. I think there are more competitions on social media now but a lot of them are dross and the number of established companies running decent competitions is far lower that it used to be.
  • I’m posting anywhere from 5-30 competitions a day on my Facebook competitions page. It’s public and free and I post them from all over Facebook. Companies and businesses know that social media makes customers so it makes sense to run comps there. I’d say it is 100% worth getting a Facebook account!

There are mag daily competitions and click to win competitions that you can enter every day that don't use social media. You can find lists of the companies that run them on the regulars board. .

I don't have Facebook any longer, after running into problems having a comping only account a while back and don't use twitter very much nowadays, as wins dried up..

I don’t have any social media accounts either and have also noticed that I can go through pages without entering any comps. However, I do still win, have had 3 wins this month (a 2 night break from Moneywise, a book and a bookmark)

Social media comping was more fruitful 3+ years ago. Nowadays i find the majority aren't worth entering (esp when there is a comp for a £2 box of chocolates and its getting 1,000+ entries). Companies know that social media is a big thing.

Thanks everyone, for your views. It seems a pretty equal split between those who use social media and those who don't/or don't feel it's particularly worth it.

Back in the day (the days of postcards and LWE!), I used to find competitions everywhere - and I used to win quite a bit from them. But now the wins are a lot less. Still, I'll carry on with my hobby of more years than I can remember (as a child, I once won a Radio One competition and had my name read out by Ed 'Stewpot' Stewart - there's one for the Millennials to ponder over...).

    Be Lucky everybody.
  • I suppose its easier and less effort for companies to set them up on social media now - It also gets them a bit more free exposure and means they can track users who are entering and gather information about their demographics.

I don't have much luck on social media, but still do enter. Comping has definitely changed over the past few years, it's not what it used to be but it is what you make of it :)
Thanks to everyone that posts :T:money:

Whatever media you enter on seems to have huge numbers entering, so it's no suprise companies are offering cheaper stuff, when they can draw in loads with a tin of soup... And most of the social media ones these days say, 'the more people you tag the more entries you get' so people do loads of them.
