No A levels are required to apply for an EO post in CS and i can assure you that most EOs do not have a degree :rotfl:
When I did a stint in CS some 30 years ago, all the EOs in my department had 2 A levels, several had degrees and all the new entrants were graduates.0 -
Morata, thank you for your kind words. I wish you all the best in this new job. Hopefully a new situation can offer you something to hold on to.
I don't have a confidence problem. At least not in the usual sense. I am not lacking in confidence in my own abilities. It's those things outside of myself that I don't have confidence in. I think you only have to look around at what's going in the world to see that. I am past the point where I might be able to bend reality to my will. And besides, having other people to consider is a highly effective break on such a Nietzschean outlook.
It's seemingly the civil service or retail management for me. Only thirty years to retirement!0 -
I'm reading a lot about what you don't want to do, but not much about what you do.
If the personal projects meant a lot to you - then are there any peripheral jobs you could do that would monetise your interests?
I've worked in care more or less all my life. There are opportunities there to move into a more responsible position fairly quickly, but people need the right values and to demonstrate an aptitude and enthusiasm for that type of work. Some experience also helps to access related work, post-grad social work for instance.
The same possibility of progress may well apply in retail, but you may have missed that boat by now.
Thanks for taking the time to post. I mentioned earlier that the personal projects are something I'll need to put behind me for the sake of my sanity. But even if I didn't need to forget about them, they couldn't really be monetised,. Perhaps if they could I might run with them.
I have a good friend who is a manager of an old people's home, and that, together with my own reading, leaves me with no desire to enter the profession, even if I possessed the aptitude and temperament for it. I have huge respect for you and everyone else in your line of work doing the job because they truly care about people. The lack of funds for care in this country is a scandal.
There are always boats available in retail, particularly in the company I work for, as they cannot hold on to the managers they train for some reason...!0 -
