Trivial Pension

Hi I’m 60, still working and paying into a local authority pension.
I have a small pension from the NHS ( 1995 rules) of £1034 a year ( roughly £22 a week) that I need to sort out.
Can I ask for a Trivial Commutation on the NHS pension? My LA one isn’t due to pay out till I retire in 6 years along with state pension.
Or does the value of the LA pension affect the NHS one? Again it’s a smallish one as I’ve only been paying in 3 years. Thanks

No. For trivial commutation, the combined value of all of your personal/occupational pensions must be below £30K. The notional value of your NHS benefits is £23,782 (20 x £1,034 pension, plus 1 x £3,102 lump sum) so your 3 years in the LGPS will take you over the £30K limit.
When you take your NHS pension they may ask you if you want to take it as a triviality pension - but they will also ask you to confirm that you have no other pension benefits. Please don't be tempted to 'misunderstand' the question. It would be fraud.0 -
I am not attempting to defraud or deliberately misunderstand and have already contacted my LA pension providers for the capital value, I just wanted confirmation that although the LA isn’t payable for several years it still counted in the £30,000.00.
Thank you for answering my question as part of your post.0
