  • I bet that's really rewarding work... my youngest has a speech delay, he's been assessed by a speech therapist and a paediatrician and they've decided there's nothing wrong and he's a bit lazy as he's the youngest of 5 and has his every whim met (they put it in a more technical way). But he doesn't talk AT ALL, very odd. We've been learning a bit of Makaton and short term it's helping. BSL is a whole different level, so hats off!
    The pie sounds lush:-)

  • It is very rewarding, but very hard, physically, mentally and often emotionally as I support some very poorly children. I’ve taught an elective mute before, we worked on saying just one word, even if he just moved his mouth. 18 months later he was quite a chatter box!
The pie was lush and went down a treat, with enough left to do a midweek tea for my husband & I. Managed a second NSD too.
  • Ah nuts! I was hoping for a 3rd no spend day, but we are low on loo roll so I had to go out. I ended up spending £20 !♀️ However, I got my vitamins, some breastpads (£4 cheaper than normal) sweets to go with the presents I’ve bought, snacks for the kids (£2 instead of £3.50) So I’ve saved a few pounds and bought things I’d have to buy later this week anyway, but still a bit gutted. I’ll try again on Wednesday.
  • After a fail yesterday I’m trying again today for a NSD. May even get some housework done if the smallest munchkin will sleep somewhere other than on me!
  • Managed an NSD yesterday, but out of bread today so quick nip to the coop. I’m also trying to find a new mattress. Ours is past comfortable and we need a replacement. The deals on Wowcher and Groupon look good, but are they too good?!

Hi, just wanted to say good luck. I'm a mum of 3 school-aged boys and paying off debts for me and hubby too, and it's proving quite the journey.

With batch cooking it's a project for me at the moment as hubby is also trying to lose weight so I've been making lots of Hairy Bikers recipes from their diet books. I make batches of soups, stews, chilli etc in the slow cooker for us to have when he gets in from work, then I freeze leftovers in single portions for him to take to work for his lunches - he's a bus driver and works 12 hour days so needs a decent lunch. I currently have a 3-bean veggie stew in my slow cooker....eldest may eat it but the younger two wouldn't be very happy with it! :D My kids aren't fussy but they really aren't keen on veggies so everything has to be hidden....they do like pasta with sauces so I make batches and freeze so I can feed the kids seperately on hubby's work days (which is 4 days a week). They also like pie so I make savoury beef or chicken pies with lots of things like leeks or grated carrot in there - pie fillings done in the slow cooker are delish and so easy!

  • I’ve 2 girls and a baby boy. The girls eat some veg, but yes, for the sake of variety and making meals last longer, the more I can hide the better! Thinking of cottage pie this weekend, may try chopping some celery and courgettes up small to bulk out the sauce, plus chunky carrots. Good luck to you too aimeemum!
  • Shopping day done. Spent more than I’d like, (£100) so need to look at ways of cutting back. My over spend has left me feeling quite disheartened, 1 week in and I’ve overspent by £20 this week. I keep telling myself I need to save for my long term goals, but they feel very far away today! :(
  • Food shopping is a constant struggle here too.... we shop every 5 days and spend about £80 a time for the 7 of us. I find it really hard to keep to :-(

I manage on £80 a week for the 5 of us, but it's taken a long time and takes a lot of planning to keep it that low. Will be nice to have more to spend when we're debt free :D
