O/S Daily Wednesday 16th January 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Pitch black and dry underfoot, forecast is for a drop in temperature though.
DH up and gone to work stupid early just to help his boss out - he'll be home by 9am. DS1 now getting ready to leave for work. DS2 still in his pit although I can hear movement, he'll get up and go for a run shortly. We're having a couple of days' away - we'll be leaving mid morning.
Dinner last night was gammon steaks, chips/jacket potato, peas and coleslaw. Not sure what we will be eating tonight or where - a change will be good, I got a good deal on a hotel with breakfast included - looks like some eateries nearby we'll need as they don't serve evening meals.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC.
Brilliant evening at the panto last night. To say it's approaching the end of it's long run it was still as lively as opening night. The innuendos still flowing thick and fast but that's panto! DGDs performed brilliantly and I am one proud grandma!
Eldest DGD decided she wanted to stay here last night so she will be to waken up for school shortly. She needs to be out of the door by 7.50 to get her lift from her friend's mum. We were late home and very late to bed so I may need to shout up a few times before she surfaces.
Then the day is mine and it's a Skipton on the bus day. Three of us today so full strength! We will do the usual browsing of the market and cs but I don't plan on spending much. Of course lunch will be involved and the customary wine before heading for the bus back again.
No cooking for me today, probably just a snack early evening if we have a big lunch.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. Hope yesterday went as well as it could SILVER-OLDIE, I was thinking of you. Hope Zeus is recovering well too. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc, enjoy your break.
Glad you enjoyed your weekend Specky.
It's been quite breezy and wet overnight, looks like one of those days where it doesn't quite get light.
Washing was done last night, it's been hung on the airer. I had a lightbulb moment this morning - I usually sort and fold the washing downstairs then carry it up and put it away - much easier to just take it upstairs to fold and put straight away!
Hugs to those in need, thinking of poppy and taff especially.
May brave Ikea this evening if DD is well enough, I have a voucher from the Christmas tree to spend.
Happy Wednesday, take care. XX0 -
Morning all
Cold here this morning but meant to be very cold over Friday and the weekend, we have had weather warnings and advice re staying warm, cant see it being that cold myself as its been so mild but we will see.
Off to work for me and I need to keep 6 clients busy today, I'm sure I will find something, the teacakes we made were nice but a little 'heavy' so I need to try another recipe or tweak that one, I might have another go today.
Pizza for dinner tonight with salad so nice and easy also I need to do a wash.
Candy I hope Zeus is recovering xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Good morning all
Thank you for starting us off nmlc
TA your evening sounded lovely and well done to your DGDs
Thoughts with all those finding life difficult especially taff, poppy and Holly
Yesterday the end of life care meeting was dealt with in such a gentle compassionate way, it made it so much easier. Full marks to the care home. They have given me much to think about and have said to let them know, what decisions I have made. I didn't realise palliative care, nursing care etc could all be brought into the care home if I feel hospital isn't where I want mother to end her days.
Quiet day today.
Take care allIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Morning folks.
There's not a nice day outside, battering rain and howling wind again.
SO - lovely to read about your positive meeting and that you feel reassured.
Camelot - every time you mention ikea I shudder! As for washing, it's always struck me as somewhat odd that washing machines are downstairs (in houses) and not upstairs. Carrying dirty clothes downstairs only to carry them back up again? Of course, my mind then kicks to remind me about hanging them outside to dry!
I've got another full day ahead, teaching this morning and then interviewing in the afternoon. I've decided to cut back my already short working hours next academic year, too much stress. I'll keep my strength and time for DM and myself.
There's eggs for breakfast, I boiled them the other day so must use them up. I've got some pork belly to use up too, I really like it but must expand my menu again soon. :rotfl:
Now I wish everyone a happy Wednesday.0 -
Morning everyone. I woke at 3-30 and couldn’t get back to sleep oh well. Not bad today only working at lunch today. Fat club this morning and I will go to the gym first. I am enjoying the exercise and I hated stuff like that I am walking when I can as well. I have lost 5and a half stone it has taken 2 years but I feel a lot better for it0

Good morning
Shouldnt have bothered putting the news on here today all quite depressing when you consider the implications of last nights vote on the B word. It is quite worrying the way our lovely country is going.
Mothergate could have been worse so thats a positive I guess  I had a steak sandwich with chips so brought half home to have for tea... tin foil is the way to go. I cant go til Thursday next week because of work bookings and we had a major strop about that ...what if she runs out of food and starves (wont ever happen she has enough for a family a 4 for a month) answer...walk to the shop 5 mins away....what if its snowing....it wont be....what if its raining.....take a brolly....what if its cold....tough put a coat on ...cue pouty lip and the classic comment...I dont know why you cant cancel Tuesday you know I dont like shopping on a Thursday. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Honestly she get more childlike every week.
Today I have lots of work to do ...prep and more bookings. Might sell Tuesdays for half price
or is that equally childlike  Food is undecided yet but will involve something in a zip loc from the freezer
Yesterdays Costco trip was not too bad for me with only a couple of off list purchases. I did get some beautiful looking mussels which I plan to do as a moules mariniere on Saturday with crusty bread chips and mayo. They were on offer for a fiver so... bargain Also got the stewing steak with a fiver off and some kitchen wipes that will last me a year for £6. With a tank full of petrol at a lot less than Asda it was a good shop
Hope Zeus has had a good night candy
Enjoy your Weds everone :A0 -
Good morning all, thank you for the start nmlc.
Gers, that sounds like a good decision. It gives you enough leaven in the mix without being under pressure professionally, and you
can be more flexible and available as needed for your dear mother. And have restorative time for yourself - most important.
I hope Zeus is improving. Such a worry when our furry friends are sick.
I'm having a domestic morning, then taking the knitting to the craft group. I'm not feeling 100 percent but I'll be fine once I get going. There'll be a mix of kent faces and new folks, which will be good.
Today's food is a repeat of yesterday's and I'm defrosting some beef for a casserole for tomorrow. Also time for a gathering up of veg for making soup before the veg box delivery tomorrow.
Hugs for all poorlies, especially taff, poppy, and Holly, and to all carers especially snoozer, Csarina and Hester. I hope everyone has the best day possible. xxx0 -
Morning everyone and happy hump day,
Yesterday was good and productive. Finished work around 4ish, went to the gym for a bit, then darted to the post office before it shut at 6 to send back some of the clothes my dad didn't like, collect a parcel which I missed (turned out to be my contact lenses) and send back a letter which was sent to me wrongly. Home to make some dinner and then I had a couple of hours to myself before bed. Played some xbox and started watching a film.
Had a dream that Michael McIntyre brought me up on stage and there was a few hecklers when I went up, shouting things at me and so I was sent to the back of the crowd for my safety. I'm sure that has some subliminal meaning.
Today I've an important meeting in the afternoon with an external potential client. I hate them being later in the day because I find myself thinking/worrying/planning all day for them, other things don't get my full attention, you know? Anyway, after that I'll nip to the gym for a quick run then home before football training 9pm-10pm.
SO - I'm glad it went as well as a conversation like that could.
Gers - I too love pork belly but I've never really used it home cooking. How do you cook it? Any good recipes you could share?
Bozwood - Good on you!! And let's hope today takes you that bit closer to your goal too
Nelski - I love your sense of humour., you're posts always tickle me. Your mussels sound delish.0 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread and hugs to Holly, Poppy, Taff, SO & Zeus.
I've not managed to get on here for ages as I'm having problems with my tablet.
CHS's discharge from the Early Supported Discharge Team will be in the post this week, it means that finally after 4 months of not being able to leave his side, he is allowed to do things on his own. All I have to do now is persuade to do something, anything! He is now under the care of a different team who's name I cannot remember! He is signed up to the local re-hab gym and is having a taster day at the local stroke club, so life could get a little easier.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0
