Is it worth buying a slow cooker with a timer?

However, when our household went down to 2, I bought a small slow cooker, and found that the modern ones are not as 'slow' as the older ones (and that small ones obviously heat up quicker). I had things 'overdo' in my new cooker, so had to use a timer.
However, i too, use a plug-in timer.
Interesting about newer cookers not being as slow as the older one. I nearly ruined a casserole this week. Several bits of meat were almost charred. I don't think it's a poor seal because there was still plenty of liquid.
It's only about 5 years old too. I think I will manage for now and just keep an eye on things. I've got a plug in timer I could use if I need to go out. Maybe replace it next winter.0 -
Some people have mentioned using the slow or low setting. I only use this to keep something warm. I usually cook meat and vegetables together in the cooker. If cooking on slow/low I am afraid that the meat will not reach the sufficient temperature to kill of any nasties, especially when there is chicken in the cooker.0
