Money from recycling?

I have in the past weighed in aluminium cans, metal and car batteries.
I decided to give it up as not being worth the bother. I like to recycle, I am wondering if I was more organised if it would be worthwhile.
I do collect litter/cans, so I get more than average. Just going to the weigh-in place to get some money for 2 old car batteries.
Does anyone elese do this, any tips on how to maximise profits? I notice aluminium prices have recently gone up.
