Money after repossession

Hello
We took out a mortgage in 1999, and due to circumstances it was repossessed in 2001. We never thought or heard anymore about it due to living abroad. Now we’ve been contacted by a company who do work for heir hunters saying we’re due money from the property. Is there anyway we can find this out and deal with it ourselves. We know the mortgage company and address but have no other paperwork due to moving internationally several times.

Write to the mortgage company and ask.
They may owe you something, or you may owe them.0 -
Sounds fishy to me, do these "heir hunters" want a small payment in advance to process your claim by any chance?
If it was you who took the mortgage, you should at least remember the name of the Lender, contact them and see if you are due anything.0 -
Has it been sold since the repossession sale?
If not then Land Registry will show the sale price (for £3).I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
