Running a Band
wonkytable

in Cutting tax
Hi all,
I'm a self employed musician and run a number of bands. If we had any gigs in the past we would usually get cash and that would be split between the band members. We'd all do our tax returns and that's all above board.
During the last tax year I am more of the band leader and most of the time I invoice the client, the money for the whole band is paid into my account, then the band members all invoice me. Then I pay them their share online. Do I need to declare the whole band amount on my TAX return and then put the money paid out to the musicians in the band as expenses? Everything is strictly on a casual basis and I certainly am not an employer. I ask my musicians to state on their invoices that they are responsible for their own taxes etc.
So, should I declare the whole band fee and then take off the band member's fees in the 'expenses' section?
thanks,
