Asda assessment help?

I've been invited to a three hour assessment. Has anyone been to one recently? What does it entail? They apparently don't do formal interviews as such. The dress code is smart casual, do you think straight dark blue jeans and a smart shirt would be ok?

I had one three years ago. It was a group interview that was more like a team building exercise

We were given a pack of dried spaghetti and a pack of marshmallows and told to see which group could build the tallest tower

My sister had one about six months before, and it was similar challenge type thing but I can't remember what hers was, it wasn't spaghetti and marshmallows though

They seem to zone in on the outgoing chatty ones. I would say that you need to engage in whatever challenge they give your group, even if you make a balls up of it, as the challenge isn't the point it is more the communication and the willilngness to have a go and not sit there being a bystander

I once had an interview at Tesco and it involved a 30min exercise answering usual questions ("tell me about a time you XYZ"), then 1h on the shop floor stocking shelves.

Coming from an ex manager at Asda who was involved in recruitment.

I don’t advise jeans - although it says smart casual I would still go for smart dress trousers and then do more casual on the top half.

Very much engage in the group activities because of you sit there and not join in you will get sent home and not offered a job.

Flexibility is the key - managers will be looking for anyone that is very flexible to shift patterns and days you can work so the better you can offer the better your chances.

If you get to “give it a go” on the shop floor, show enthusiasm, join in the task, talk to the colleague, ask questions and interact with the customers.

It's been years but we had to build a bridge out of paper and sit on it.

There was also a task where in groups you got an ordinary object (pen, bike bell, toothbrush sort of items) and you had to work out all the selling points of the product and then act out a tv advert for your product.
