Just saved over £17 on a ticket listed as £50 to travel from Liverpool to Oxford and back. Exactly the same trains and operators. Why can't National Rail give you the best prices?

    That's really a question for National Rail, isn't it?

    I guess it's simply that they choose not to.

  • Because National Rail don't sell tickets, or set all the fares. The fare(s) you paid will, in all inevitability, be operator specific fares. As Kite2010 stated, Welcome to the crazy world of (split) ticketing. It's a consequence of our hopelessly split and disorganised rail system
