Old Endowment Policy Research

I am looking for some help with regards to tracking down an old endowment policy from early 1980.
Around 1980 I took out a mortgage to purchase a property and a couple of years later I extended it to enable me to make improvements to the same property.
For both of these loans I took out 2 separate Endowments policies
('with profits' policy type as I recall for around £16k & £2.5k) BUT I am unable to recall who with, an DO NOT have any records (policy documents or bank statements etc.).
In 1993 I sold the above property and re-mortgaged on another property but this time on a repayment schedule, whilst still maintaining the two endowment policies above.
During the late 90's (once again working from memory, ie. I have no record) I sold the 2 endowment policies on to an investment company, thereby relinquishing all rights and payments on the policies.
And that was that; or so I thought.
Just before this last Xmas I had a letter from a company asking me to verify who I was with a view to being owe some money!
Being satisfied that all appeared to be ok, I provide them enough detail without compromising myself (you read about scams everyday!!).
A few days later I got a letter from Royal London saying I was due some money, and a few days later a cheque arrived (£135).
Not wanting to cash in something that I may not be due to AND curious as to the detail I contacted Royal London by telephone asking them if they could provide more detail.
It appeared that the money they were reimbursing me with was for outstanding interest from the (smaller) policy that matured in 2007, but had no record of any other policy in my name.
My question's are;
might there be any outstanding payment due to me from the larger of the said policies?;
and how can I go about trying to track it down?
My only input towards this was to enquire via my bank to retrieve any DD payments (and who to) I made around that time (1980's) but they have informed me that their records are only kept for 7 years.
Has anyone any ideas or experience of how I can resume this enquiry?
Kind regards.

No. If the policy was assigned, like you say it was, then you have no entitlement to the proceeds.
It is also possible that you are not entitled to this £135. If it was a unit correction, the money belongs to the person that the policy was assigned to.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
