Comping sensations in the media

So here we are a new year and yet more articles about how easy it is to win and how tens of thousands of pounds worth of prizes fall into peoples laps.

    It's in the Mirror too.
One of the tips 'Join a forum' That means this place is going to have a load of new members.
And why enter for season tickets that you will not use? That is being greedy & selfish imo. Someone else could have made good use of those and saved a few quid. That kind of behaviour annoys me. (I've no problem with those who win tellies, appliances, etc, and flog them if they need the money, I want to make that clear, but to do that and deprive a fan of them is disgraceful)
I don't grudge anybody a win, fair play if you get lucky, (unless you win a lot then moan about others winning) but it always annoys me when people go to the papers telling people about it.
We are going to get a load of people coming on here having a go, which they are entitled to do but then grumble after about a week saying that they haven't won anything.
    Be Lucky.
BEST EVER WINS WON IN ORDER (so far) = Sony Camcorder, 32" lcd telly, micro ipod hifi, Ipod Nano, Playstation 3, Andrex Jackpup, Holiday to USA, nintendo wii, Liverpool vs Everton tickets, £250 Reward Your thirst, £500 Pepsi, p&o rotterdam trip, perfume hamper, Dr Who stamp set, steam cleaner.

The trouble is these days there's more to be made by blogging about comping and selling articles to the papers about comping than there is by actually comping. And the media love a minor celebrity, so if someone can get themselves noticed as a 'pro comper' they probably have more chance of getting on the radio or the telly or whatever, where they have a chance to win something or profit in some way.
If I had the knack of writing, and wasn't a shy person, I'd write a 'how it really is in the world of comping' article and try shoving that in the faces of the media.

  • I get so annoyed by people entering for things they would never use or be able to use. I try and practice ethical comping. I don't enter for anything my family, friends couldn't want or use. it's frustrating when most holidays are family holidays with kids that I don't have lol I don't enter effort comps unless I make the entire effort myself either, I see a lot of cheeky cheats.

The sad thing is these bloggers understand that prizes may land in their laps because the promotors want the free publicity , it's why they do it.

I think flaunting your luck is pretty annoying too but that maybe just me :rotfl:

get ready for the 'ive been entering for a week, i've not won anything, help!!' posts haha.

comping is not a reliable source of income, even more so these days. 9 out of 10 people won't stick to it
Thanks to everyone that posts :T:money:

I thought it was really mean to possibly deprive a real fan of the chance of tickets to see their team, especially as she comes across as almost angry that she won them. I did wonder whether the comp was one where you got whatever tickets came out of a draw but thought that was unlikely given they were Port Vale tickets. So I went back to her just being a mean, or at best thoughtless. person.

  • Have we all seen the blurb for the Martin Lewis show tonight? It says "How you could make a small fortune as a 'comper' " !?!?!?

Maybe I should watch and find out what I'm doing wrong. seriously good way to make people hate compers even more too.
  • not seen the blurb for but I wish he wouldn't do this, it's unrealistic and any promoters watching may be put off running competitions for decent prizes if they think they are just being targeted for potential ebay earnings Very silly indeed spoils it for everyone

I saw it and came here to see if anyone else had too! I really hope he emphasises that it's hard work, should be fun, and isn't really a hobby for everyone. Every time I win people say "You're so lucky!" .... I'm not, I just fill in forms for hours on end, as we all do :rotfl:
