Son had 4 teeth removed - when should pain ease?

Hi,
My 15 year old had 4 teeth removed on Monday (7th jan) ready for his brace to be fiited in a couple of weeks. I took him back to the dentist on Thursday as he was still in pain with one socket in particular, the dentist cleaned out the hole and packed it. He’s still in pain now which is 4 days after having his teeth out. Is this normal? I’m giving him paracetamol and ibuprofen and this evening I gave him 1 solpadene max dissolvable to see if that made a difference...he says no. How long does it usually take to heal after having teeth removed?
Thanks.

If you are worried about the socket healing or what medication to give to you son you should contact the surgery who know his medical and dental history.
However it generally takes 6 weeks for gum to heal 6 months fo bone to heal after an extraction.0 -

Thank you.
I took him to his normal dentist yesterday because of the pain and she checked the socket which is causing him pain but never mentioned infection or it looking like there was anything wrong so I assumed once she packed the socket he’d start feeling less pain. This hasn’t been the case though.Savings in 2019 £0

Have you googled 'dry socket'? My partner had this after having teeth removed, very painful.
Has he been gargling with salt water which really does help the healing.
It can be a lot to go through, both my girls had multiple teeth out for different reasons.. My eldest had 8 teeth out (4 adult & 4 baby) plus a lump of 'toothlike material' which was deep in her gum. She took a good week before the pain was manageable. She had to wait 6 months for things to move and settle before she got her braces, although we are still waiting for her front top tooth to move through her gum now the lump has gone (it is moving down, but if it doesn't progress by Easter they will slit her gum to make the route down easier!)0 -

I’ve had dry socket before so that was a concern, however the debris never mentioned dry socket when she checked it yesterday. She did pack the hole though which usually helps with dry socket. That’s good to know your daughter took a week before her pain was manageable (obviously not good for you daughter, poor girl ☹️) as it sounds like my sons pain could be part of the healing process and normal if it takes a while.Savings in 2019 £0

I had a back molar extraction earlier this year, it was about 2 weeks before I could manage without pain killers. When you gargle, do it gently, don't swoosh into the wound.0
