Finding old debt

Recently an old creditor contacted me about an outstanding debt that I used to pay via payplan. I'm now going to pay them directly going forward. I know there are other old creditors I used to pay via payplan but I don't know how to find them. I've asked payplan 3 times if they have the details and they haven't responded. It's not on my credit file anymore.
Any ideas how to locate them? I can't remember the company who had been passed the debt. I don't want them to think I'm deliberately ignoring them.

    Hi,

You can’t really do much to be honest, debts are passed around collectors like car keys at a swingers party, it’s very difficult to keep track of who owns what.

If they want to pursue it, they will write to you.

Sourcrates, yes ive found that to be true!
I know one old debt was with Egg. Just looked them up and they don't seem to exist anymore. I'm just concerned they might write to an old address and then one day out the blue I will have a bailiff at the door.
  • How long have you not been paying the debt?

Has there been a gap of 6 years without payment to any of these accounts ?

If so, they will be statute barred, and you won`t have to pay them.

I've only missed around 4 months of payments. It's a weird situation. I was paying via payplan and thought all was ok. Then received message from a creditor chasing a missed payment. Emailed payplan to ask what was happening to which they said they had cancelled my plan a few months prior, due to it being impossible to clear in a timely manner. I had no calls or emails, the must have written to an old address so I had no idea. This creditor obviously had my email address but I don't know about the others.
  • Why don't you make a written complaint to PayPlan, as they have not been forthcoming with the information you require?
