Recommend a Mattress for a bed dwelling teen

My teenager’s bed is his bed and his sofa!
He sits on his bed and plays on his xbox but obviously also sleeps in it too.
His current mattress is a foam one because I was told this would last better, but it hasn’t. It has a huge dent where he sits in it, making it super uncomfortable to sleep in.
Does anyone have any recommendations for certain mattress’ or if they know what type of mattress would be better for this purpose (ie srung, pockets springs etc) there’s just too much choice out there and I’m finding it hard to make out the difference between them.
(Please note his room isn’t big enough to fit a separate chair in so the bed is the only choice for sitting on!)

A very solid base, with a thinnish but still comfortable mattress, would minimise the scope for distortion/sagging.

Foam mattresses (memory or otherwise) will always sag/sink if someone repeatedly sits on them in the same spot - ditto sprung mattresses. Any chance you could persuade him to sit in slightly different places (no, thought not, but it seemed worth making the point just in case!).

Wouldn't he be better having a sofa bed, so that he can sit on it correctly, then pulling it out to go to bed? There would be far less risk of the mattress becoming misshapen.

From what OP says about lack of space, that very good idea might not work...but would a cabin bed with seating underneath perhaps fir the bill (and the room)? We got the eldest a really solid bed frame, so even if he flattens the mattress, it'll still be Largely Flat.

We cheated though & chivvied the lads into getting desks & "fancy swivel chairs" for the technology (I went High Geek on them, blathered about power & cabling & connectivity until they were ready to put their consoles in the shower if it got a better result...)

To achieve that, we had them swap bedrooms, which excavated things down to carpet level for the first time in ages (ahem) but if you have only the one, then maybe a makeover so you can recable (or at least see things clearly enough to know where the power lines run), and "get a man in" while the lad's at school.

I don't usually advocate fraud (often) but a little benevolent blackmail & nudging into rearranging things might help the decision to extend his range from bed to chair and bed... ?

If the mattress is flipped and rotated regularly, then the 'dent' will not form in the same place, and it should last 4 times as long.
