  • I think it's unclear. It might be obvious to you -

"Clients working on a temporary contract through an agency are acceptable, provided the agency can complete our employer's reference confirming the applicant has been employed on that basis for a minimum of 12 months."

    Her contract is 12 months.

    Ok.

We don't have any loans / outstanding payments / reason to have a bad credit score.

I'm obviously new to all this, so I'm not totally unsure what information could break or break the application.

I'd have thought it was as obvious as the word "temporary" in front of "contract" , and having only worked there for 4 months, not 12?
  • Another Joe, I don't need your pointless and sarcastic "advice" anymore.

    Hi James

I'm sorry that the process is so stressful. I would say you are in strong positions given your ages, so even if you do get knocked back now it's not the end of the world, although I know it might feel bad.

On paper it looks like this is outside Nationwide's lending policy. Has she done similar work to this before? Has she had temporary contracts before? If the answer to either of these questions is yes then t'd be cautiously optimistic on your chances of getting a mortgage approved somewhere (even if it isn't from Nationwide).

I would wait to see what Nationwide say, you might get lucky. If it's bad news then there are other lenders out there and plenty of mortgage brokers happy to sit with you and work out the best course of action if you feel you need help.

  • Hi Verix,

First of all, thanks very much for your comment.

She has had jobs similar to this one, yes. We've both recently just come out of university and she's now in a job that she has studied for for 3 years. She's been employed throughout our time at university, maintaining a part-time weekend job.

Of course this from of employment won't be taken into consideration.. its so frustrating!!!

    Thanks!

    The criteria is clear.

The information you have given for someone to provide a realistic view is incomplete.

    Expect to be asked;-

what was she doing prior to this contract starting in August
was she working for the same employer
is this her first temporary contract with this or any other employer?

before a decision can be made.
