Old Curtains - what do you do with yours?

All of the above - we do keep ours as many of the young people in our lives appreciate borrowing some 'not quite right' curtains whilst they settle in and save
I would definitely contact your local homeless centre - they will know if there are any organisations who would take them as Caterina suggested. Ours manages to find room for a lot of household stuff that helps people when they first get a room or flat.0 -
Wow, thanks so much everybody.
I have loads of dust sheets already - previously our own bedding
We have a couple of charities round here who help to provide furniture for people who have nothing.
Otherwise, I'll label and bag them up for the charity shop.
Thanks again:T0 -
I always give my old towels, bedding and curtains to my local Women's Aid - they have ladies who stay with them turn up in their clothes having fled difficult home situations. They are often housed by the Council etc but have absolutely nothing to their name - our local place likes to send the families out with the bedding etc for their rooms which was used whilst staying in there. Even using the same quilt cover gives kids some security.
It took me a bit of digging but Social Services gave me a number and I tracked the place down from there but only ever visit with permission.
They always need toiletries too - I tend to de-clutter anything from Christmas and drop them off.0 -
Our local animal rescue centre makes use of old pillows, duvet or blankets for the animals0

Ilona said:People give me curtains, and I find them in skips. The best ones I keep for myself, the ok ones I donate to charity shops, and the not so fashionable/pretty ones I cut up and make into shopping bags. These I sell to make money for a cat charity, or I give them away.

I'm planning on turning some old ones into nativity costumes for the children at church - hopefully they will be able to perform this year. Generally I hang onto some old ones - so that if we move I can take my nicer newer ones with me and still leave some curtains behind for the new occupiers - we have moved into houses with no curtains before. Not much use if you want to get rid though!1

I don't really want to cut them up, most are good quality and have plenty of life left in them.
I did try ebay and Freecycle but no takers.
Suggestions gratefully received
Thanks1
