Do You Really Need To Pay £xxx's for Dental Work?

How utterly ridiculous. I have read nothing but good common sense from the dentists who post here. They tell it like it is, from both an NHS and a private perspective.
The 'dentist come forum users' certainly have built up a league of supporters on here.
As for 'telling it like it is', you know this for 100% because... :think:taking a self-enforced break from this forum due to the persistent and ongoing troll problem, and the systematic abuse of the report button system in order to get people/usernames banned0 -

I am not part of this alleged 'league of supporters'.
I've never asked for dental advice on here.
I personally can't say for sure that the 'dentist come forum users 'do 'tell it like it is' but from what I've read, they seem to make sense to me.
But then again, I'm just a random user of MSE, who has had the same dentist for almost 20 years and 100% trusts her and her advice.
Jemima:
as it's you throwing the allegations around, maybe you could say if you have read any evidence of anyone being 'VERY pro-private dentistry' on this specific thread.
Otherwise, it could look like you're derailing the thread for some purpose known only to you.0 -
Jemima is itching for a fight, and I'm not going to bite.

I have no axe to grind.
Just sounded a bit like you had an axe to grind against some 'dentist come forum users' and I personally couldn't see any evidence of bias on the current thread.0 -
I'm not sure who this poster is referring to:
but I've not seen any evidence of anyone being 'VERY pro-private dentistry' on this specific thread.
Really!
I am not saying they are wrong but it comes across very clearly to me.
As I said on another thread here today (and before I read this one) I get the impression that the regular dentists on here feel any that any that work for the NHS are either saints or fools!
It would be interesting to read the views of a 100% NHS dentist, why they do it, what is right as well as what is wrong with the system and why they haven't left for the promised land.0 -
This is but one survey of dentists, all of which tells the same story https://bda.org/news-centre/press-releases/half-of-nhs-young-dentists-heading-for-the-exit0

NHS dentistry is dying. In the future the rich will have all sorts of implants, whitening, straightening procedures etc and the poor will have no dentist. Like before the NHS. Exactly what the Tories want.0

Not on this thread.
I can't see 'very clearly' - in fact, not at all - where either Toothsmith or brook2jack are 'VERY pro-private dentistry' on this specific thread.
I think both posters have given the OP good advice.
The time to challenge their advice is when they do show bias towards private dentistry for their own reasons - whatever they may be.
If I've got it wrong regarding this thread, I'd appreciate you pointing out to me what I've missed.

I wasn't referring specifically to this thread, it is just an impression I have built up over a period of time.
I am not in any way suggesting they give bad advice, indeed I have had some helpful advice from them and have frequently drawn attention to "the very helpful dentists who post here regularly".
However it still interests me that there are many thousands of NHS dentists who presumably make a satisfactory living from providing mainly or exclusively NHS dental services. The regulars on here have all moved away from the NHS, which is their business / professional choice. I would just be interested to hear from some other dentists who have taken the opposite view.0
