Security clearance query

Hi,

I am in my job a few years but due to a new contract require to get SC clearance.

Few years back I took out multiple pay day loans (could not give a accurate figure) however I have checked my credit report and can see only 4/5 mentions of loans on the report.

I have no debt at all, what I want to know as the credit report only shows the 4/5 loans is there anywhere else that the government would see the total of the loans and anywhere else for me. As I have checked with two credit agencies and both had the same information. I checked with the bank and they use experian which is where I got my most recent report from.

If it is not held anywhere am I best just declaring the 4/5 loans that are listed.

Any information would be helpful

    You're overthinking this.

    Assuming your filling in the standard NSV001 for a standard SC clearance, the only questions you'd need to consider are;

19c Do you currently have, or have you ever had, significant financial difficulties?
Depending on how bad your financial situation was during this period dictates whether you should answer this.

21b(v) Are there any details or explanations that would help us to understand your financial position better?

Don't try to avoid answering honestly if you feel you should, tens of thousands of people have SC and CCJ's and what have you. I don't know how bad your situation was during this period, so I'll leave the rest to you.

  • From memory, the form asks for number of loans you have had in the last 10 years and any debt etc.

It asks how many times you've had a loan declined in the last 10 years. See (here - page 53.)

Being blunt, these questions are meant to gauge how willing someone would be to consider theft. Having loans doesn't indicate hardship, being declined loans may.

  • Thanks, I have had a loan declined... is there anywhere I can get the details of this?

I cannot see it anywhere on the credit report.

You would be foolish to give known untrue anwers to the questions they ask.

What else would you do to avoid problems? Not the right attitude for someone handling sensitive material.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

I don't want to give half truths which is why I am trying to find full complete details.

Any help on locating on the information is greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure what you want. If you don't have any records of the correspondence in your emails/post then I'm not sure what else you expect?

If this is the case, just explain openly that you no longer have records and think you had X loans about Y years ago. As above (and reading between the lines of your posts) I think it would be a massive mistake to lie on your application assuming that they won't be able to find out as they credit check with Experian...

You were considering saying you only had the 4/5 you could see despite knowing you had more. Your concern was that a government agency might be able to see more.

As already said, be honest, say you know the details of the 4/5 but that there were more. That's not a half truth.
