Old Style Daily Tuesday 8th January

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning all,
I expecting a thread to be made given that some of you tend to awaken at crazy o clock. So I hope that means you're all in a deep and uninterrupted sleep!
I'm up at the usual time but I've came straight to work as opposed to the gym first. I have some clients, or potential clients I should say, who are based in Japan so I need to be in early to catch them at a reasonable time.
Yesterday after work I had an hour long phone call with my old boss. He's more like a friend more than anything else so it was nice to catch up. After that I done some other bits and bobs before hitting the sack around 10
Today I'll finish work a bit earlier. I'll go to the gym and then head home to prep dinner I'll continue on with my productive nights that I've been having of late.
I'm heading back up to Scotland this weekend for my Dad's 60th on Saturday. Some of you may remember, but my dad suffered severe brain damage after being attacked in Glasgow in 2002 and this has left him in a permanent state where he needs 24 hour supervision in a hospital in Ayr. He doesn't know who I am, or anyone else for that matter. He'll claim he's not eaten in days despite us just watching him eaten. It's a sorry state but one I'm used to. So we're arranging a little shin dig. He won't understand. He'll maybe even take the huff that we're saying he's 60 but it's the thought that counts. I'll see my mum on the Saturday night and then I'll have lunch with my gran on the Sunday before heading back down the road.
Anyway, I need to make some calls. Hope everyone has a super day

Morning everyone
speky - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still pitch black here, temperature has dropped but no frost.
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, I'll wake him shortly - he'll be going for a run.
Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg. I remembered to get chicken out to defrost overnight, I'll probably make that into a chicken and mushroom pie, we can have mash, veg and gravy to go with it.
Yesterday work was as manic as ever, people everywhere, having to wait, not happy, so was a challenging day to say the least, but the day passed very quickly - I got held up with a complicated case at lunchtime which meant I was late going for lunch, it made the afternoon flash by! Today will be busy again I suspect as it's just that time of year, we'll see, it's my short day though. Haircuts tonight too, so when I get home from work I want to get as much done as I can before hairdresser arrives.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all Thanks for starting us off Speky
DS has been laid off from work so i am still up early but no need to be I have a painful shoulder that i can't get to stop hurting its been a couple of weeks but i always sleep with that arm under a pillow so i suppose its getting the weight of my fat head on it all night i have changed pain killers to ones i had for my sciatica in a bid to make it go away
Today is ironing then a bit of tidying up I popped into town and paid the cheques in as well as popping to walks for some half price bits not very exciting
Someone was talking about china dinner/tea sets yesterday TA was it you? Mum has been sorting her house and cupboards so I won't have so much to do as her parents did this for her she got everything out on the table and the children and I took anything we wanted and everything else went to auction unfortunately the china was the one thing that didn't sell even for £10 a full Royal Doulton dinner service with tureens that she got for her wedding so we ended up donating it to charity .
Right better get on have a great day whatever you are up to hugs to all who need them xxSlava Ukraini0 -
Morning Speky and all to follow. You are an early bird this morning. What a lovely idea for your dad's birthday even though he doesn't understand what it's all about. I remember you telling us about the horrible attack which left him as he is. It's just horrible.
I was awake silly o'clock as always but I now have a pile of relaxing/mood music cd's beside the bed and I am working my way through those in the hope I come across one that helps me get back to sleep. I have kept buying them over the years and didn't realise how many I had accumulated till I had a sort out last night! Eeek!
I never heard the scales crashing through the window in despair NAN! Dare I ask! I am still avoiding the scales but trying my best to eat sensibly nonetheless as my clothes tell me what I need to know.
I am meeting my oldest friend this morning for our now regular Tuesday coffee and cake meet up. We can natter on for ever about this and that and share all our worries and know it won't go any further. We've been friends through thick and thin for 66 years, since meeting on our first day at junior school.
This afternoon I hope to carry on with the decluttering. Yesterday was quite painless as it was just my own stuff I was pruning. Today I aim to start on the DGDs stuff under the stairs. Also should be painless. The problems will start when I eventually get to all the old china etc which have real sentimental value. WGP that is the very reason I want to start this decluttering. I don't want my DD and DS to be left with the job.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. SNOOZER, as you know, I was in your shoes for five and a half years and, as NAN wisely says, the good days far outway the bad. Make the most of every one. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning All
Well done TA, I find it's the starting that's the problem! A couple of years ago I bought my Aunt a replacement plate for her dinner service from a company who buy old crockery, may be worth finding one of those.
That's really sad Specky, I'm sure your Dad will appreciate your visit deep down.
It's mild and clear outside at the moment, nice to see the stars again.
Work wasn't too bad yesterday, my boss let everyone away a bit earlier as it was the first day back. I visited DD on my way home with some soup, she hasn't been well for a couple of days with a flu type virus and hasn't really eaten, she messaged me later to say she had enjoyed the soup so hopefully she's on the mend.
I have the dentist after work today, not looking forward to it but needs must! I also started back at fat club last night, not really sure they understand the vegan diet but it gives me an incentive to loose some weight if I have to go and be weighed in public!
Anyway, hope those with worries or ailments have as good a day as they can, take care. XX0 -
Morning all
Running late as I really did not want to get out of bed this morning.

Good morning all
Thank you for starting us off Speky. Have a good weekend, I'm sure your Dad will appreciate your visit.
Not very pleased with D*benhams. Made an order and on the day I should have collected it I had an email to say it had been delayed. An hour later email to say order cancelled.
I contacted them to say I wasn't pleased and why had it taken so long to let me know items not available.
They must use templates for their replies, but couldn't even be bothered to delete parts I shouldn't read
I am sorry your order was cancelled {INCLUDE IF THE CUSTOMER HAS MENTIONED INCONVENIENCE and apologise for the inconvenience caused.}
Think we'll go out for coffee today, nothing else planned
Thinking of all those finding life difficultIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Morning everyone and thanks for the start Speky, such a sad situation with your Dad but at least you will be together as a family x
We have the TD being delivered today, our slot is between 8.06 to 10.06am so just the waiting game now, hopefully they will be on time.
That’s about it on plans for today, everything else is just fluid.
Many congratulations Bella on your DD’s engagement.
Good start on the de-cluttering TA it’s like the old joke about how do you eat an elephant, one bite at a time
Hugs to all poorlies, have a good day folks x0 -
Good morning, it seems to be dry and quiet out there.
Thankyou Speky for starting. What a sad state your poor Dad is in. Hope his little party goes well.
You seem to have got the de cluttering bug TA, it does get hold of you doesn't it. What will you do with all the lovely china, hope you find a solution. I've got some, from one of my Grandmas, and Dh's Grandma. I'd forgotten about it as it's put away.
Tai Chi doesn't start till next week, so I don't know whether to go out somewhere this morning, or stay in and do jobs here.
It's the usual quiz tonight, nice to get back to normal in a way, after the jollifications.
Congratulations on your daughter's engagement Bella.
Thinking of the poorly and sad,
Take care folks0
