I normally use pudding rice but they dont sell it in my local area, just at larger stores. Can you use an alternative to pudding rice such as long grain white rice?

I haven't tried that - it would have a different texture, it depends whether you mind your rice pudding being a bit more sloppy. If you can find pearl barley, it makes a fabulous 'rice' pudding.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0

I use arborio (risotto rice) and it gives a lovely creamy result because it is so starchy.

Sometimes pudding rice isn't with the other rice in supermarkets. Our branch of T**** has it with dessert items such as custard powder and jelly.0

I don't buy pudding rice. Any rice will make rice pudding, though you may have to cook it longer.0

Well I've just this minute even learned there is such a thing as pudding rice :rotfl:
I use long grain rice and a variation on this recipe:

I have also used sticky rice to make it...or geltinous rice as it's sometimes called on the packet. Got it from an Indian store in town.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0

As I can't find 'pudding' rice any longer, I use 'risotto' rice. Reminds me of the Italian families we knew in my fifties childhood, who couldn't find risotto rice, so used the widely available 'pudding' rice for their risottos!0

I can't remember if I found it in the rice section or the home baking section or the rice pudding/custard section, I only remember that I was looking in the wrong place to start when I went to the SM looking for it a couple of years ago.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0

I could so easily start fisticuffs on this thread, diverting to a Skin? or No Skin? discussion (applies to custard, too)
Smurphington - any rice will make a yummy pudding. If you use a long grain rice, you may like to soak it in cold water for an hour or two beforehand.
You'll make some lovely puddings, I'm sure.CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:
