sugarpaste?

Hi

I am making a cake for my son's 7th birthday, i have borrowed a few books from the library. In all the books the decoration is done with sugar icing. Is this the same as icing, and is this the same stuff that is on shop bought birthday cakes??

The books each include the recipe for making your own but advise to buy it ready made, does anyone have any experience of this stuff, ie. is it easy to use etc.??

  • Hi, Mel. I made it a couple of times and found it quite difficult to use. For decorating cakes, I'd buy the ready made icing.

Yes, ready to roll icing is the same as sugar paste. I've made it before, the faff and difficulty making it, I'd buy ready made every time:rotfl: I have a great cake-making shop near me that sells brilliant sugar paste, and even lovelier marzipan, made from all natural ingredients, so that it's the palest yellow colour. Worth checking to see if you have anything nearby.
You never get a second chance to make a first impression.

Hi Mel, whatever you do, don't buy Tesco's own brand. It is far too soft, which makes it really hard to work with. If you buy it from a supermarket, go with Supercook Regalice. I think Morrisons have an offer on at the moment, buy 2 save £1.
