need new home

hi, i live in northern ireland and have done all my life, but the time has come that i need to spread my wings a bit. if anyone could recommend their local area or an area they think would suit me i would very much appreciate some good advice as i have never been to most of the u.k. ive heard that the north east of england is quite reasonable for house prices. i am a single parent of a 2 year old so good nurseries and schools are a must. low crime rate is very important. i will also need to continue working so somewhere that i'll have a good chance of finding employment, i'm currently in finance. thanks all.

Leicester is pretty central, and not too expensive housing wise. Plenty of work as well...... I spread my wings as well many years ago and long to go back to Northern Ireland, dont suppose you live in the sticks and would like a house swap?:D

Hope you find what you are looking for........
:confused:I have nothing better to do!!!!

    come and live with me!!!!
    JOKE!

Is not really the best time to move as the housing market is in a mess and the prices are possibly going to drop! The North, which is a little grim, is likely to be more affected than the south east, so give it a year OR TWO if you can.

Also, the interest rates are so high at the moment, not to mention the Northern Rock crisis caused by the Yanks and there sub-prime market.
Most of the banks are being hit (reflected in the share prices), look at Paragon, which has been in the news. There are less morgates available and when the interest rates drop, it should help everyone.

My advice is stay in N Ireland for now, enjoy the 2 extra bank holidays which you will losing when you come to England, and basically bide your time...

Also, check out the article on this website about buyingg a price, there is a lot of info there!
  • ok so you reckon now not such a good time, i knew everyting was quite bad at d min with rates and all but iwas expecting that to be a permanent thing. im probably making a snap decision but the way things are at the minute i just need to get away, even if it is for just a couple of years.my heart is bullying my normally sensible head in2 running, trying to reason it out but im still swaying towards leaving. will mull it over some more. thanks for advice.

To me, you'd be nuts to go live somewhere and think of buying if you've never been there, have no job to go to - especially if you're thinking "even if only for a couple of years".

I've just moved 200 miles and am planning on renting for 2-5 years. Work out if I like it here, where I like, where the jobs are, are there jobs, where is the best place to live based on where I end up working.

Best thing to do is rent. However, arranging a rental (or any accommodation) from a distance is hard to do.

You need to find lists of places to look at, then arrange viewings (can be a couple of weeks) then the credit checks etc (another couple of weeks). So think in terms of having 2 months' money to live in some holiday accommodation or hotel upon arrival.
