Took & car over in the summer of 2003 and after being shocked by the prices I phoned their offices in Gothenburg.

They all speak perfect English and were happy to quote me in Krona.

It worked out £200 - £300 less than booking in the UK. Maybe I was lucky or the rules have changed or the exchange rate was good??

Use one of the cheapo phone services and keep trying.........

Also, if you want to save some money on phonecalls, I contacted a network called Halebop and although their site is in Swedish I emailed them asking about SIM cards and getting a number in advance and they mailed me one to England - free!!

I was looking for a ticket from Harwich to Esbjerg and went via the international website https://www.dfds.com and select other countries. Tickets are priced in Euros. It seemed to work out cheaper.

I did not book as I needed shared cabin on way out and 2 person way back which cannot be done on website which I booked over the phone.

Also, make sure you clear the temporary internet and cookies if you have already visited the dfds.co.uk
Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!

Just had a look at their site and it says they only go to Norway

Thanks to JPR and droid for the tip re: doing it in Euros/krona icon14.gif Will give it a go.
  • I booked a ferry through Ferryasvers.com for myself and my family (including my 1 and a half year old son).

On the outward journey the ferry was delayed and rerouted to another destination. Ferrysavers insisted they TRIED to let us know about this but they can't have tried very hard as they had my landline number and mobile number as well as email address and I never got the news. We were stuck at the port for an extra 3 hours when if they had tried a little harder we could have left later.

On the return journey we found that we had been sold a ticket with a ship change and another stop en route. The journey which should have been a few hours took 8 hours. Nobody told us this when we bought the tickets - we only found this out when we were checking in for out crossing.

As you can imagine - neither of these were much fun when travelling with a small child.

Ferrysavers get the complete thumbs down from me for their rubbish customer service.
