Its not mud slinging, its helping to demonstrate that what the person who was sick said isn't true. Also asking for a one liner if anyone else was sick after eating the limited choice of food.
In that situation I think all I would notice would be the smell of vomit. I wouldn't be analysing the smell for 'notes of alcohol'.0 -
Ordinarily I would say if you did say it, apologise. But as the person was clearly drunk (not food poisoning as nice chap seems to think...its easy enough to tell the difference) I would deny it all day long even if you did say it.
I would apologise for the situation but not for saying it and maybe even ask how you raise a grievance about someone making allegations about you.
If your boss is offended at being called a s**g then you can be offended at being accused of saying something you have not. Unlike your statement, there is evidence your colleague said this where as there is none of you saying what you apparently said.
But I would play that last card by ear, I do not know how your works is run.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Q2) Did you take a blood sample from the colleague or breathalyze him? No? Then you have no PROOF they were drunk. many medical conditions can mimic the effects of alcohol, e.g. very low blood sugar.
......
Very low blood sugar is not food poisoning.Originally Posted by shortcrust

Regarding the state of the person the OP was trying to help, all they can say is how that person appeared to the OP. There is a big difference between saying that person was drunk, and saying the person appeared to be drunk. One is opinion and the other claimed as fact without concrete proof.0

How very honourable and professional!

Well I wouldn't "play that last card" at all and certainly not at the disciplinary hearing.
If the hearing goes in the OP's favour then he could possibly consider making a complaint about the allegedly drunk colleague's behaviour but I would strongly suggest not doing so as a tit for tat defence.0 -
I don't think it really matters if they were drunk or not. What matters if whether anyone else heard you say what this person claims you said. If it's you against them, it's easily refutable. If there are other people that heard you say it and have given statements to say as such, then the chances are you probably did say it and you'll be disciplined accordingly.0

Being honourable and professional (if it were true) would by the looks of it get him sacked. Unless you are planning on paying his bills next month, I would think about his job rather than his honour.
When your line manager/boss who is supposed to be professional at all times comes over to you angrily and sends you home, it does not bode well for admitting any wrongdoing does it.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Could someone else said to him but in his state of drunkeness and concentrating on trying to get to the toilet he confused you with someone else?
You say you were on your own with him at times, when? Why did others who you said were there too suddenly leave? Did anyone else stay by him on their own?0 -
To the OP. Ignore the food poisoning & diabetes, red herrings and not relevant.
You were at a works Christmas do and there was loads of alcohol consumed. The new manager on waking up has realised the enormity of their behaviour, very drunk & throwing up and knows that it could cost them their job. So they decide to lie and you being one of the people keeping him alive, yes you the quiet one that rarely socialises with work colleagues and is hardly noticed by other managers is now evil incarnate. The pregnancy rumour is probably true. This is whats is known as a distraction. Senior management are now in rumour & gossip control mode and the new manager hopes that the investigation etc will take so long that his antics at the party will be forgotten.
Don't mention any of the above at the investigation, emphasize your life preserving skills instead and that you don't pay attention or listen to work place tittle tattle. Also mention your other excellent work attributes.0 -
I wonder what happened?0
