Nhs job withdrawn due to reference

Hi all. I have had a job withdrawn because of a problem with one of the references.
I have requested i writing to see the reference.
It was through TRAC nhs which o my knowledge has no free text box to type negative comments.
Does anyone know what questions could be answered via yes/no format which could scupper ?
Maybe would you employ this person again?
Are futue employers allowed to contact via email or phone for additional information then revoke?.
Thanks All i hope above makes sense.

    Quite possibly!

    Yes, of course they are!

As you say you have requested a copy of the reference you can only wait and see what it says.

However it is up to the potential employer whether they employ you.

Obviously you are unlikely to find out about any "informal" telephone or grapevine "reference". You are probably entitled to a copy of any notes they kept about the telephone call but I suspect they will have magically disappeared!

I'd be surprised if there weren't any free text boxes in there somewhere.

Are you aware of any concerns the referree might choose to put in, and which you were hoping to avoid, or is it completely out of the blue?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

HI it wasn't a surprise. My previous manager and I didn't see eye to eye.
    I worked there 19 years :(
Correspondence when asking her was good though.

Ultimately as long as what they've put on the reference is factual you've no comeback. Opinion based questions such as 'would you employ this person again' are clever as it allows them to express a negative opinion about you without lying.

As someone else pointed out the other option is that they had an 'off the record' chat, which is likely to be denied. I know situations where people have lost job offers, sometimes extremely good job offers because of such conversations and not always with the managers either.

Well I think you have answered your own question!

A reference simply has to be true and not deliberately misleading.

So if the manager with whom you "didn't see eye to eye" was asked " Were you satisfied with BtD's performance" or "would you employ BtD again" they could quite truthfully reply no!

So disappointing I was very good at my job :(
  • The reference form is very simple, I've seen it.

My referees dragged their feet and I got threatened with position withdrawal....

The process is so frustrating and long winded
