Third job - Income tax questions

Hi all

Needing some advice, my partner is looking at taking on three jobs. One will be as a private nanny, one is in a creche at a gym and the final one will be a courier for Hermes to make up the extra 2 days. My question is this - she currently will be paying tax via the creche job as this is paid via the gym, it is only 1 day a week for 4 hours. The private nanny job is 27 hours but will be treated as self employed, and the Hermes courier job pays via bacs and therefore needs to be declared income. So in terms of declarations and tax returns, what does she need to do? I assume do a self assessed tax return? How does this affect her pay from the gym? Thanks in advance!

She needs to declare all income, not sure why you're differentiating any of it?

The Gym would provide a P60 after the end of the tax year. She includes those figures in the appropriate place on the tax return she completes which includes her self-employed income.
  • What happens with the gym is that she will fill out a form P46 at the beginning of her employment, stating that 'this is not my main or only job'. She will then be taxed on this job as if the other job uses up her tax free entitlement (which will probably be the case). Yes, she will have to fill out a SE tax return for her SE work.

As part of the SE return, she will be asked to declare what she earnt on the other 2 jobs (which they will be able to check anyway). Her SE payment will then be magically calculated so that the tax for the year is correct, and she'll normally be able to pay any smallish amount owing through a code adjustment for the following year, or pay a larger amount there and then.

If HMRC owe HER money, she'll normally be able to choose whether she'd like a cheque or an adjustment to the next year's tax code.
