N.I shortfall

Not sure whether this is the right forum to post. Does anybody know how much you have to earn or pay NI for it to count towards your basic pension in a year? Son has got 9 qualifying years and he is 28 yrs and has three yrs shortfall in N.I. In total, for the 3 yrs shortfall, he has to pay over £500. I am wondering it is worth for him to pay as I understand you only need 30 qualifying years for a full basic state pension. Am I correct? Thanks

Yes the rules are changing for everyone who retires after 2010 to a requirement of 30 years. So he''s well on target and shouldn't need to pay for the arrears. :)
    Trying to keep it simple...;)
