Same here, but also reading because it tempts me away from the laptop and social media/online shopping - both of which are bad for me. I have got some big lifestyle changes to make this year ...
Parents coming for lunch today, so we will have pate for starter then casserole and veg and then eat up the Christmas pudding and frozen pudding that is lurking in the freezer. Not sure if DSs GF is staying for lunch but there is plenty.
Have arranged an appointment for DS to find out if he can get Universal Credit tomorrow. Not holding my breath but it would take the pressure off us if he can.0 -
Happy New Year Everyone!
Honestly, I had big plans for today, cleaning the house from top to bottom, doing the big shop, going for a run etc and instead I have sat and done nothing Lol - We had a late night last night so feeling abit crappy today, decided to just enjoy my last lazy day before reality kicks in tomorrow as I am back at work. I have done a meal plan though for the next week and will pop to Aldi tommorow, hoping a menu and shopping list will keep the cost down!
Also signed my husband up to Oh My Dosh - he's on £1.50 already. Oh and I logged into topcash back and saw that had £11 in there which I didn't know about, went to withdraw it and they are holding £7 back for some membership fee, so thats annoying but as I didn't know about it anyway £4 is still good.I have now changed my membership to the free level and I will try to remember to use it, I didn't use it at all last year!Going into 2019 owing £27, 789.94

Happy New Year Mum. A lazy day sounds just the ticket especially if you're back at work tomorrow. Hope 2019 is a good one for you.0

Hi, actually felt good to be back at work today, got my out of the over indulgence slump i've been in over the past couple of weeks. I spent last night doing a little budget just to get me to pay day and then I will be doing a budget for the full month. I don't have any extra cash at the moment to pay anything off so planning just makes me feel a little better as I at least feel productive! I've done a few surverys tonight too and hubs managed to do a shop for under £30 tonight! A friend has been decluttering her daughters wardrobe and has offered some lovely outfits for sale but I have resisted! all little things but hopefully going towards a bigger picture! going to try and get an earlish night tonight as my sleep has been rubbish lately, mainly dreaming of all these numbers I think Lol
Will up date soon!Going into 2019 owing £27, 789.94

Today is not a good day, only 3 days into the new year and I am feeling deflated. I budgeted every penny yesterday and then forgot to include my account fee so that was £17 I hadn't planned for. Also my dog has been back and forth to the vets this week, I was quoted £250 for his treatment (he required a procedure today) I didn't have this so had to get a 0% money transfer
I got £300 just incase it went slightly over and it ended up going over by a further £35 - so I have then had to borrow money from the money I put aside to pay for my daughters swimming lessons at the weekend - i've then had to cash out on oh my dosh and survey sites - this money is earmarked for the holiday but I think I may need to put it towards the swimming lessons as I just can't see where I will get the money from other wise. I am just so fed up. I have been decluttering today and gone through my daughters close with them and put what they no longer want to one side, usually I would gift them or donate but I am going to try and sell some bits I think.
I am going to sit and do a budget for January pay day and I want to try and put some savings in to, even if its just £20 a month or something.
Now off to cry into my tea and eat some christmas chocolates!Going into 2019 owing £27, 789.94

Oh no Mum. That sounds like a real run of knock on effects regarding money, no wonder you're feeling deflated.
It's not as though you've gone out and splurged on something you didn't need though so don't feel too bad, you'll get back on track again soon I'm sure.
Hope your dog is on the mend now. Drink that tea, eat that chocolate, go to bed and tomorrow is another day.0 -
Oh MWM have a hug, same here because after two trips to the job centre 15 miles away it looks like DS will get Universal Credit BUT his car went into the garage yesterday and he doesnt get any money until next month, so looks like I will be paying garage the bill.
I plan to start setting some money aside for car bills etc, which I didnt do very well at last year, but I think this will have to wait until next month. On the upside my wonderful brother has given DS2 £1500 for his 18th birthday so that will pay for driving lessons for him.
And I havent actually spent any money on anything unnecessary this week so that's a plus.0 -
Thanks Tea, feel slightly better today, had abit of a word with myself and decied not to write the whole year off on day 3 Lol just need to sit down and make a new plan.
My girls wanted a chippy tea tonight, told them no way and they were going on, then remembered they both had £10 each from my auntie for Christmas so told them they could have one if they used their own money, which they both wanted to do. Feel strangely proud of that- haha!
Feeling tired today after being at work so early night for me.
Hope everyone is have a good Friday evening.Going into 2019 owing £27, 789.94

Evening Mum. Glad to hear you're feeling a bit brighter. Had to laugh at your comment about not writing the year off on day 3 - I can relate to that feeling...a lot!
Well done on giving the girls the option of using their money on chippy. I think it helps teach them the value of money when mum and dad don't always put their hand in their pocket, although I definitely don't have the right to stand on that particular soap box.:D
I had a similar situation last night. DD is home from Uni but has forgotten her debit card but she does have Christmas cash. Anyway she ordered something on line using my card and gave me the money. She wouldn't expect me to pay for it but in the past I would have said, it's OK my treat. Only I didn't. I kept my mouth shut and after an initial feeling of being mean I actually felt quite proud of myself.
Enjoy your early night and have a great weekend. x
Yorkshirelass - great news about the UC for your son and your generous brother, not so good about the car though0 -
Hi Yorkshirelass, sorry I missed your post last night, looks like we posted at the same time. I'm pleased your son got UC - but thats rubbish about the car! and what a fab gift from your brother! bet your son will be thrilled, I know I would have been on my 18th
Teafor2 - well done on allowing your daughter to pay, I know it feels harsh but needs must. I actually told myself before Christmas that moving forward into the new year I would be more mindful of my money, I don't want to come across as tight or anything like that but I will often pay for things for people and let the money slip and I decided I just couldn't do it anymore. The odd couple of pounds here and there really adds up!
So today we have been out for a meal, completely free as it was a belated xmas gift - went into town afterwards and bought myself a 5 year diary! can't wait to start using it - also bought my mum a birthday present. I popped into the Works and they were doing 20 birthday cards for £1 so stocked up, they come in handy for birthday parties.
Oh and I also won a competiton on a fb group I am in, the prize was £5 paid straight into my paypal account - so thats good!
I've made plans to meet up with my friend this week, she's a close friend and I don't have to pretend with her, told her straight that I didn't have the money to do much and so we are off for a walk which will be nice (and of course free)
All in all i'm feeling more positive - just got to keep on going now.Going into 2019 owing £27, 789.94
