Dental work in Turkey

Mouthwash interacts with toothpaste , 98% of mouthwashes are classed as cosmetic so have no proof they do anything and most people should not use them , if you feel you want to use mouthwash don't do so within 2 hours of using toothpaste.
You might not eat sweets but are you a grazer , do you pick at food in between meals ? What do you mostly drink?
There are many foods and drinks that have hidden sugars. Eg yoghurt, fruit teas, raisins, starchy foods such as crisps are converted to sugar in the mouth.
Do you use a fluoride containing toothpaste?1 -
Good point re mouthwash, although I'm not sure 3 or 4 times a week would be of much detriment, but I am not an expert.
I don't graze and I've been on slimmingworld for 4 years (and stuck to it) , so no crisps, very rare do I have fruit or yoghurt although I should. I drink a lot of (unsweetened) coffee throughout the day and water first thing in the morning and evening
My toothpaste of choice is Sensodyne enamel repair or something similar sounding.0 -
You need to do a three day diet diary. Write down everything you eat and drink , and the times , even if it is just a sip or a bite . Discuss this with your dentist for suggestions.
Likewise have you dry mouth? Diabetes , medications , certain medical conditions can cause this and people with dry mouth should be on prescription high fluoride medication again if this is the case discuss with your dentist.
There will be a cause or several causes for your dental problems. Having a lot of extensive treatment without identifying and correcting the reasons for these problems just means you are storing further problems up. Crowns and bridges are not as strong as the teeth they replace. They can still get decay and gum disease around them even more easily than natural teeth.0 -
TBH I've been through this with my dentist. I kept a food diary religiously for 12 months for Slimming World. She couldn't find much (if anything) to go at.
I couldn't tell you about dry mouth as I've usually got a coffee on the go (It can take me over an hour to drink a coffee)so if I had it I wouldn't be aware ? **EDIT** just Googled 'Dry Mouth' and no , i don't have that
100% not diabetic and no meds.
The toothpaste I am using is Sensodyne pro enamel. (Just checked the exact name)
I know what you mean about establishing the root cause , but if she cant work it out over the last three years other than saying i have an extraordinary hard bite I'm not sure what the answer is.0 -
If you have a "hard bite" then it is likely you are clenching at night as well. Has a bite appliance been discussed?
Does your dentist think extensive crown and bridge work is a good idea? Have you discussed your long term dental health and treatment plans with them?
If you have a lot of decay then diet is the key , you cannot get decay without sugar.
If teeth are breaking without decay that is another matter.
The main thing is problems that have been building up for years are not going to be " cured" by a sudden , one off course of dental treatment and a long term view needs to be taken of your dental problems .0 -

Nope.Does your dentist think extensive crown and bridge work is a good idea? Have you discussed your long term dental health and treatment plans with them?
She has suggested additional crowns, although we haven't discussed them to the extent I am planning.

The other thing that can cause problems is acid.
Acid can come from two areas
From foods and drinks eg any drink with bubbles, any drink/food with citrus fruits
From the stomach in people who have indigestion/reflux etc and again this is something to discuss with your dentist.
It is not good to extensively crown teeth unless they really need it. A crowned tooth has a 20% chance of dying off because substatantial amounts of tooth need to be removed in order to fit the crown. A tooth that dies off needs root treatment and is much more tittle than an ordinary tooth. Crowning and riding des not strengthen teeth. It is a last chance for teeth that are already severely damaged.0 -
I have seen some horrific work coming back from countries such as turkey. Work that will cost the best part of 20k to out right. Work which wasn't necessary in the first place but "looks nice"
A lot of over treatment seems to be done and sold on the basis you think you are getting more for less. But that's a very false economy.
If things go wrong then its not just a case dentists here will be unwilling to fix problems. It may be that we aren't able to fix it. Implants - if a dentist works with Implants our indemnity doubles. Given you need to go on specialist courses to provide them most of us don't have the training or the insurance to work on implants.
Crowns. Well if multiple crowns have been done and need changing often your bite will have been changed and require significant work to replicate or recreate a stable comfortable bite. That's a damn sight harder to do than replace one or 2 crowns.
All work. Even the best. Will in time fail. Buy cheap pay twice. Buy buy abroad and give up many of the legal and indemnified recourse options you take for granted here.0 -
I clench and grind my teeth at night when I'm stressed - the dentist suggested a mouth guard for a month which I then took back so she couid inspect where the wear was occurring to get a better picture of what was going on. Has your dentist suggested anything like that? Might be worth asking about. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0
