My GP has given me backdated sick notes in the past in order to provide a continuous period of sickness for the job centre. To all the people asking why the OP hasn't been to the GP, the typical waiting time for an appointment is 4 weeks at many practices.

You can always get an urgent appointment on the day.

OP should have followed the sickness policy of their company and not simply stayed at home.

GPs can backdate certs for an ongoing sickness. They shouldn't backdate a cert at the start of a claim to any date prior to an appointment being requested.
