Standard life pension

Had a letter from S Life to tell me that when I took out my annuity in Feb 09, they should have asked me for my health & lifestyle status as that might have given me a higher pension ( as in I may have been expected to have a shorter life, hence an enhanced pension. I had to fill in a form describing my status as at Feb 09. At that time, I had some major health issues from which I was in considerable pain and had been for a number of years. I had surgery to correct this condition in June 09, which left me with mobility problems but thankfully eased much of the pain. At that time, I was also experiencing the beginning of rheumatoid arthritis but I didn’t act on it as my overwhelming pain was elsewhere. I never returned to work after this and now take several medications for RA and the mobility issues. My question is, would any of this count towards an enhanced pension, bearing in mind that the RA was only diagnosed after 09 but the mobility issues were long-standing but not sure that would qualify as a health issue. RA is known to precept heart disease.

It's your health as a snapshot at the point of application for the annuity. Anything that happens later than that doesn't matter in respect of the annuity rate.
In 2009, enhanced terms were not as easy to get as they are today. However, its possible that at least one provider, possibly two would have quoted enhanced terms.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
