Leaving work due to severe depression

So my bf attempted suicide just over a week ago. He's now been signed off work sick due to depression and is waiting for a MHA. He also has AS (aspergers syndrome) which is a huge contributory factor to his pretty much lifelong depression.
He isn't in any fit state to work, and even when he is feeling better its short lived because of the pressure even just two days a week at work cause him.
He's afraid to give up his job because he fears he won't be able to claim (he was previously entitled to DLA because of the AS).
Can anyone offer advice about how to move forward? What should we claim, what rights does he have when giving up a job for benefits?
Thank you

I would suggest you might be better to post on the Benefits board, where you should get more help on what he is entitled to claim.0

Are you working? Do you have any children? Do you live together? If you do are you renting? Is he still getting DLA?
There are a number of possibilities dependent on circumstances
If your boyfriend has enough NI contributions he may be able to claim "New style" ESA

Universal Credit.

Your bf will need fit notes but given the situation can't see that being a problem.
And from what you say PIP is to be considered

I agree with this being moved to the benefits forum. More detailed information will help. It may well be worth a visit to your local CAB/advice centre to discuss face to face.
It sounds really difficult for you both. I hope it works out for you.0 -

I hope work are helping
OP says depression has been pretty much lifelong so while work may contribute it doesn't sound if the cause was there..0
