Started new job but wasnt taxed

Hi, I started a new job at the start of December, prior to that I was also in a job. I got my first payslip at the new place today and I've paid NI and student loan but not any tax. Any pretty bad with these things so any help would be welcome. Am not sure if my employer has got something wrong or if something else might have happened.

Here is my net income to date. December is the new payslip.

Did you give your P45 to the new employer ?

What tax code have they used ?

Did you fill in a new starter form, if so what did you put in the employment this year part ?

On the face of it they have fouled up so you need to put some away for next month when they take the tax due for Dec and Jan.
  • Although you don't state which tax year the April payment was paid in or what your tax code is it seems highly likely that the payment from your new employer should have had tax deducted.

When you started with them did you hand in your P45 from your old employer or complete a "new starter checklist" or neither?

Do you have access to see the full details of your December payslip with the new company to see what information, if any, they have included in respect of income from a previous employer?
  • My tax code is 1185L. The April pay was paid on the 20th, not sure if that is the new or old tax year. My new employer didnt ask for a P45 but did ask me to fill in a HRMC starter checklist.

Which option did you select A B or C?

If you have a P45 it always best to hand that to your new employer even if they do not ask for it.
  • My previous employer didn't send me a P45.

I've just checked the photocopies I sent to HR. I knew I should have double checked, I selected A instead of B. :o

I'll need to inform HR ASAP. What are my options, pay the tax I owe in a lump or divide by the remaining 4 months of the tax year and take it out of my future payslips?

    Thanks

Speak to your payroll dept. They should at least put you onto month 1 tax code; they may be prepared to adjust tax to include that not taken this month.
HMRC will be sending them your pay and tax details (might arrive in time for next months pay) ; when they receive them your tax position will be corrected.
