  • Sorry, the mortgage has 145k left but we have help to buy too at 43k. I will polish up the SOA. All the zeros are the fact that we literally do not buy anything but essentials any more. I go into town on Sundays if I need to so it’s free parking. I trim my kids hair, we don’t go on holidays - we did have 2 days away for my son’s birthday but it was paid for by club card points and about 40 pounds.

I am trying desperately to get away from Scottish Power, I’ve heard this kind of thing happens to a lot of their customers. I’ve just applied to their hardship fund so hopefully they will reduce the amount.

We need insurance yes but we are having problems getting the policies through as they want all my health details and stuff, might just get the building and contents for now though.

    Thanks for this guys x
  • Also the working thing. Even if I wasn’t sick and able to work my hubby works ridiculous hours and doesn’t come home at a specific time of day. Some days he leaves in the morning and doesn’t get home till the early hours so even if I could work I couldn’t because I have to be at home for the kids if that makes sense
  • Do you need 2 cars? Not want, as it makes life easier, but actually need.

Hubby needs to seriously decide if continuing the self employment going forward is really viable to do and maybe consider getting a job instead. Whilst there may be a couple of things you overspend on you're not in any way, shape or form being wasteful and it is more the case your household income isn't sufficient to meet reasonable living expenses.

You show benefits income as £137 which I assume is tax credits, have you tried claiming PIP if your conditions limit what you can do?

With regards to Scottish power - have you sat down with all your bills over the last 2 years and written down all the meter readings and whether they were actual readings or estimates? Paying monthly means nothing if you aren't handing in real meter readings, you should read them every month.
Have you anything in the house you can sell on ebay?
Can you get rid of your car or do you need it due to your health?

    HI Lisa
You really do need to look into your child benefit payments as you should be eligible for child tax credits and child benefit on that income.

    Hello,

I'm really struggling to understand your energy bills. People I know with solar panels pay very little or are in credit for electricity. You've even financed them yourself without the credit going to the solar panel company. I've not heard any of any one having an extra £1500 added on to their bill annually. I'm not saying I don't believe you - I do. But I really think you need to look into this go through your bills and readings and see what's going on. I have a husband who is always switching all the lights on, tumble drier on the go, no solar panels and I'm certainly not paying £3k a year. I would make a complaint to Scottish Power. If you do it through resolver it can transfer it to the ombudsman for you.

How long have the business payments been outstanding?

I'm not telling you off at all - I'm angry on your behalf and trying to encourage you to complain. I don't think it will all be solved by getting a new energy tarriff but it won't hurt. I think you're doing well and understanding your priorities. I don't think bankruptcy or selling the house are the right options.

I don't know details of your disability but could you do ironing from home?

    Good luck xxx
