Can anyone tell me the best place to buy a bike for a 10 year old. We have a budget of about £60-80 but we would be willing to stretch it £100 if it is a really good quality bike.
We've thought of ToysRus and Halfords but other than those two places I don't know where to start.
Any ideas?
Thanks

It might be worth looking at the bikes on Amazon.

They have some branded bikes with up to 50% off.0 -

First stop should be your local bike shop. You might not have one that local, but if you can find one who sells kids bikes they'll (generally) be much more use than a chain.0 -
we just bought 2 bikes yesterday at halfords, there is an offer on that the bike was £99 and we got £20 cycle accessories voucher and a £10 off anything in halfords (just like a gift voucher) too, so we were pleased with this deal for us. it enabled us to buy gloves (which they dont need but had on the xmas list LOL) a horn and a helmet which was good. as we bought 2 bikes we got a total of £60 in vouchers.0

I got a resonable one from woolworths last year for my DS. It is not in very good condition anymore, but he does cycle 100s of miles and not very carefully. It was £75. Also have had bikes before from Stirling bycycles, cheap but £20 postage.Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:

I've also been looking for our very tall 7 year old. Current thinking in our household is better to get one without gears if possible as they are easier to maintain. Anybody agree/disagree . Saw one on the Ralieigh website - Triumph Wave 20inch Girls £89.99 which could be delivered and assembled to a store about 10 miles away - thinking of going to store first. Winstanley Bikes also do for £76 but not sure how reliable they are. Anybody got any experience of these sort of bikes and/or the two companies?0

We managed to find a decent one in Halfords for £90 (on offer from about £130 quid).
She's very happy with it and according to my OH who is more of an expert, it's a bargain and has a great suspension
Many thanks for all of your replies.
We tried the local bike shop but they had large bikes that were too big for her or young children's bikes which were too small, they were also quite expensive (nothing decent under £150).
We also tried ToysRUs who had a very nice bike that she liked, within the range of our budget but it was for display only purposes!!! What a waste of time, how the hell do you know if it will 'fit'. She tried out a couple of others just to get an idea of size - the 20" was too small and the 22" was way too big and she couldn't get her leg over the bike to get on it!! There was a massive difference for just 2". When we went to Halfords she is actually a 24" on all of them and they are perfect for her. Very confusing.
