  • Hello,

We used to live in Ayr. Yes the Sunday market & boot sale is on all year round, although it is quieter in the winter. It opens quite early, but not exactly what sure what time. Some traders turn up at 4.30am! It's run by a company called Spook Erections (yes, you did read right!), so maybe if you track down their number they'll help you. If you can't find the number online, call the racecourse 01292 264 179, they'll have it. :)

It is a car boot and market, mainly market stalls which are inside, with the car booters outside. I had a car boot there a few years ago and sold virtually nothing as most of the people who are buying buy from the market.

There was a indoor car boot at the Citadel Leisure Centre in Ayr, but I dont know if that is still running
    Waddle you do eh?

this is the bit off the south ayrshire website about the car boot -
Car boot sales and Trading stalls. To sell at the car boot sale you just turn up on the day. Spaces are allocated on a first come first served basis. Normally if you turn up at 7a.m. or before, you should be able to get a space - but the earlier you arrive the better.
Car boot sales can be fun for all the family, an opportunity to clear the junk out of the loft. Bargain hunters should be wary. Car boot sales are often used to sell bootleg tobacco and alcohol on which no duty has been paid. Although this may seem a bargain, possessing the goods is an offence and could incur hefty penalties. If you encounter any problems please contact Trading Standards.

Just found a bit on the website that says the Citadel thing is on the last sunday of each month but there's no telephone number given.

  • The car boot in Ayr is brilliant we go nearly every Sunday. Was thinking of doing one myself too to get rid of all my packrat stuff that I have got over the years as we are thinking of moving. Was told it is £15.00 table. It runs unless there is a major race on on a Sunday which is not too often. If it is raining hardly anyone turns up tho booters or customers. I think most people buy from the booters not the market. On a nice clear frosty day it can be exceptionally good and people are always loaded down with parcels. Anyone got any advice about the Citadel as I have never heard of it and I do not know where it is even. Methinks this is the last sunday of the month and it is supposed to pour down tomorrow so I would love to go to the citadel one if anyone can give me any info. Taffy

The Scottish Grand National is next weekend 17th/18th April, so the car boot and market should be on this sunday is usual.

We done the car boot sale at Ayr this time last year. If I remember correctly the pitch cost us 13 pounds and we made quite a bit. One mans junk is another mans treasure as they say!! :D

Make sure and get there really early though around 7 if you can as the serious car booters are there at that time and are looking for electronics, mobile phones, gold and jewellery.

They dont come to collect your money till a bit later as well. I enjoyed it but I dont think it would be as much fun if the weather wasnt good. It mainly focuses on the cars now and there are not a lot of market stalls as there used to be as the layout of the venues for the racecourse has changed.

    Have a good time

We went to the car boot sale today - lovely weather brought a lot of folk out! It's £15 now, a guy comes round for the money, but not til you've been there for a while, so you can pay him in pound coins! We were there around half past eight, it's early enough and the serious buyers are around then. By noon it's really just people out for a wander.

If it's your first time, watch out for the geezer who buys something from you with a £20 note, only to return later saying you gave him a dodgy fiver... he tried it with us this morning. We hadn't even given him a fiver in his change...

He ranted for a bit and said he came every week - to which I said he should know to be more careful. When he threatened to call the police, we agreed he should - and ask for a certain officer - my brother. He wandered off after that!

If you've stuff to sell, stack it high and sell it at a reasonable price to get rid. I'd go again.
  • I'm hoping to go to the racecourse boot sales this Sunday to try and de-clutter and raise funds for my holidays in 4 weeks time....anyone got any further hints & tips??
