Career advice

Hi guys,

Just wanted to ask for some career advice...

I’m a Team Leader for Admin in the NHS, I’m paid 21,000 a year but feel really lost. I want to leave the NHS because it’s such a difficult place to work with the current budget cuts, lack of staffing and sickness across the board. I feel frustrated because my service is failing and I just want to work in an industry where I can be rewarded for my hard work and commitment.

The only problem is I don’t have a clue what to do or where to look

Has anyone been through similar? I don’t even know what my transferable skills are

What kind of things do you enjoy doing?

    What motivates you?

What kind of things are you good at compared to others, and what kind of things do you find more difficult?
  • Hey, thanks for your response

I’m a strong relationship builder... and as for motivation I’m not totally sure, progression possibly. I like to have a reward for my work.

This makes me think something commission based might be what I need...

Maybe consider a basic level business development or sales role? There are a lot of different businesses that sell things to the NHS (you must know about some!) which might be a good place to start looking.

As its a bit of a career change, you might expect a drop in salary - especially in your basic salary which is likely to be minimum wage in an entry level sales role (with commission hopeuflly taking it higher). But that's often a cost of a career change, and at 21k you are earning a reasonable amount, but are not so far up that an entry level role is unthinkable.
