Hi Kay, I've only written fiction so far, some mysteries that earn very little, and some scifi novels that do slightly better. I would probably make more money if I wrote a bit more commercial stuff, but I write what I enjoy reading and I want to keep it fun!

I've been thinking about some non-fiction books about writing and publishing when also being a parent to a young family... These will have to wait until said family spares me the time to write them!

  • Belated March roundup: March looks good! Over £700 earned from the books so very nice to see. Of course, this is off the back of what was actually earned in january (two months to get paid you see). What I actually earned last month was pretty rubbish, so May's payment will not be as impressive.

Still, have had lots of set backs with sick kiddos this month, so not much achieved, but some months just survival is enough!

Oh, and I paid another 250 to the LISA to catch the end of the tax year, so in total that is £500 into a LISA, which considering I have previously contributed b%gger all to any kind of pension-type thing has got to be a good thing.

Might even manage a mortgage overpayment next month, watch this space!

  • April update...

Earnings for this month were 375, under the 500 target but not too bad. The next couple of months are going to be rubbish though.

On the writing front, one book finished by the end of April, so that's good. Hope to keep the momentum going forward into the summer where I should be able to get more done.

Seriously impressed you have written novels! That's some dedication, especially when you have a little ones.

I just wondered how you promote your books. Are you on Twitter? Do you have your own website? Have your books got plenty of good reviews?

Another option for increasing your income is affiliate links. If you have a website and review books similar to the ones you write you can promote your books, get people finding them through Google and you can also link your reviews to Amazon, Wordery etc. The best thing about this is you get commission on whatever they buy on that visit/until they click another person's affiliate link/for a certain number of days which varies depending on the website. So basically you might be reviewing a 99p kindle book but if that person goes and buys a £1000 laptop you'll get commission on the laptop.
