Central heating pipes 'clicking.'

So Im getting a clicking noise from one section of the central heating piping.
Its only happening during start up and cool down, and may have started recently. Not too loud, but as the house is so quiet its noticeable.
The system was installed last year. The engineer said its just a normal noise, to fix it would involve taking up the floorboards. He didn't really consider it a problem worth solving.
Is it right to expect a relatively new heating system to be absolutely silent? Any one else have pipe noise they live with?

Loads of ticking sounds from mine. As the pipes heat up they expand and move slightly and if they are touching joists etc, a noise may be generated. Doesn't bother me one bit.0

Pretty much all installations will do this to some extent.
Copper I assume, plastic it more flexable and less likely to make such noise.
And if you lift the boards and fix a particularly bad point then you will most likely find you have created a new place for it to start doing it.
You would need all pipes accessable and fixing areas and then heating up and cooling down to check. Repeat, repeat, repeast (probably forever!). Just not worth it! Surely a few minutes of normal heating sounds would not bother anyone!0 -
Mine do it. I find it comforting in the morning as I know the heating is on before I get up.0

In a previous house it was always making a noise, however in the current house it's completely silent. I can just about make out the hum of the pump at 5am when it comes on, but nothing else. For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.0

Was installed at the beginning of the year, plywood floorboards. Pipes are plastic. Was a nightmare to get the boards to stop squealing when they were replaced. So yes, it might be better to just put up with the existing noise, as another noise would manifest.0 -
Mine does it too. I took up the floorboards that are accessible and put lagging around any accessible pipes, especially where they touch other things like joists.
It still does it to some extent, I think it's unavoidable.
Make sure you turn off your heating 1hr before you go to bed, so the noise has finishedChanging the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
If mine didn't make a noise at 6am I would think it had broken down. It's perfectly normal, ridiculously difficult to fix, isn't doing any harm and let's you know that the system is functioning. After a while you'll hardly notice it.No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0
