Career Change Marketing Job Transition

Hi Guys
This is my first time posting so here goes! OK well I’ve been working within marketing and communications ever since I graduated from university over 12 years. At first I really enjoyed my marketing career, I’ve gathered a lot of good experience throughout the years working for private and public sector companies however I’ve got to a point right now where I question whether I’m enjoying what I do anymore? Married life, children etc has changed my priorities and I’d say I’m no longer career orientated as I was before.
I’m two months into a new job, the perks are great, the money is good too but do I really enjoy what I do? I’ve felt like this in my previous few jobs however I’ve just plodded along and got on with the job at hand.
I’ve always thought about contracting within marketing, but where do I start? What do I do as I’m entirely sure how to tackle this?
I’ve also thought about a totally new career, so a career change but how would I make this transition, what steps can I take? My key area of strength is project management.
I’d love to look into roles where I can work from home but again I’m finding it difficult to find these flexible type of roles.
I’m aware you probably get these questions all the time but I’m at a point where I’m lost and need some help. I’ve even contemplated quitting this job as it just does not challenge me. Are there any websites etc, or handy people on this forum that could help?

I'd have thought that with 12yrs in Marketing and Communications you've built up a significant portfolio of contacts. Have you spoken to any of them about your plans and have they given you positive noises e.g. we've got some work you could do ?
The market you're looking to enter is crowded and full of 'word of mouth' recommendations & contracts - some do well and have a waiting list of clients waiting to work them into the ground, others spend all their time promoting themselves via Social Media etc.
Assuming you're a good marketer then you should fit into the former bucket - if you find yourself in the latter then maybe it is time for a career change0 -
I’d like to think I’ve made significant contacts and potentially it’s an avenue I could pursue, I was thinking more along the interim route via an umbrella. Not sure whether it’s worth setting myself up as a ltd company?
Then at the other end of the spectrum I think to myself I just want to get out of this environment and try something new.
I think the Christmas break will give me some time to think and start planning ahead.0 -
Setting yourself up as a limited company is no big deal. It's cheap to do and provided you are sensible and follow a few basic rules, is a lot safer for you in terms of liability and looks more compelling to potential clients.
Have a read: https://www.gov.uk/browse/business
Google on 'career change' and you'll get masses of links. If you can't decide what you want to do, start by weeding out what you don't want to do, which will at least narrow the field.
'Getting out' is all very well, but you may find that getting back in is rather harder if you haven't thought it through and got some sort of game plan in place before you head for the exit.
Good luck!0
