It sounds as though with the incorrect spelling the application didn't pick up any adverse. The correct spelling has picked up some adverse credit which had made it decline. Get all 3 copies of your credit file to your broker so they can try and fix itI am a Mortgage Adviser

Assuming the only reason is the small missed payment, the fact you are not on the electoral role then there are other lenders who would be willing to lend to you. If you've managed to get in touch with your broker maybe suggest he looks at some of the building societies that have far more flexible criteria and underwrite manually not using an automated system.I am a Mortgage Adviser
