Cleaning Converse trainers advice

I hope this is the right place to post, wasn't quite sure.
My son has been given a pair of new converse trainers, I think they were 'ex-shop display' as one of them is a very different colour. The rubber toe and edges around the shoe are a really bright yellow/orange. I'm trying to find out if there is an 'old style' remedy to try and lighten the rubber up, even if it doesn't work 100%, but just to make it less noticable. (The rest of the shoe is a material)
The only things I seem to be able to find online is cleaning the rubber with a mix of vinegar, baking soda and hot water, which only works for scuffs and general dirt picked up from wearing.
Any suggestions please? I've tried but don't seem to be able to upload an image to show you. Hope someone can help. Thank you x x
Edit, I have considered putting the white one in the window to sun damage that one too, but by next summer he will have grown out of them ;

Perhaps a magic/melamine foam sponge might be able to remove the most discoloured top layer?***Mortgage Free Oct 2018 - Debt Free again (after detour) June 2022***

I'd second the magic eraser most of the £ shops have them. Baby/make up wipes or a little nail varnish remover rubbed over might help but sun damage/staining is very hard to remove.0

Light sanding , remove the oxidised layer0

If the above ideas fail, if they were free and your son is young enough to go for it, I'd give him a pack of Sharpies and tell him to go wild on the rubber.0

I'd wear them for a few days firs the make sure they fit, are comfortable, and I could walk in them, before doing any cleaning and rubbing.
If they are made of natural materials - which I doubt, dye them.0
