Any recommendations for a good butchers in east Belfast? I'm looking to save money on meat and fish from supermarkets-don't know if the butchers would be any cheaper?
I usually eat 10 chicken breast and 4 salmon fillets per week-I'm on a high protein diet.
I would be willing to downshift different cuts of meat if it was cheaper.

I would guess frozen chicken from the supermarkets would work out cheaper than any butchers who usually don't sell in bulk
Lidl and Iceland come to mind........look out for offers0 -
Rodgers Meats (up near Hillmount) do 5kgs of chicken breast for £20, have seen the same offer in Moira as well so I'm sure other butchers have it too. Only used their farm shop once and their sausages were very tasty, maybe worth phoning first if you're going to check they've got what you want0

Got to wonder are they just buying that chicken from the likes of the Chinese supermarket (5kg for £15), and just reselling it.
Either way I would naturally be suspicious at that price - would love to know where that meat comes from etc, an awkward question to ask them though!
PS I go to farmview butchers which is close to Rodgers. They charge close to £12 for a kilo of diced chicken breast. Their red meat, steaks and sausages are very high quality though.0 -
Try Corries http://www.corriesonthefarm.co.uk/the-farm/“HUMAN BEINGS MAKE LIFE SO INTERESTING. DO YOU KNOW, THAT IN A UNIVERSE SO FULL OF WONDERS, THEY HAVE MANAGED TO INVENT BOREDOM. (Death)” - Sir Terry Pratchett0

A girl I worked with asked the ones in Moira where it came from as it was all marked as halal, which seemed a bit strange given the relatively low Muslim population here. They told her it was all coming from the Netherlands, that was about six years ago.0 -

Thats the exact same stuff the Chinese supermarket sells for £15 then. I have tried it before. Pumped full of water. No doubt the chickens live in absolutely grim conditions too and are pumped full of antibiotics etc. I would avoid!0 -

Never tried it and likely never will, although it's hard to imagine how much worse it could be than the supermarket stuff. I firmly believe in trying everything once then you know what to buy again and what to avoid, although by now I think I've tried enough and am a bit happier to pay a bit more to get a bit better.0 -
Sorry I'm a bit late to this party. Another vote for Rodgers Meats. Try their 2.2kg gammon slippers for £7 - we usually get two or three Sunday roasts for three of us out of one and plenty left for sandwiches for lunch.
I've moved away from chicken breasts and onto Primacy Meats boneless chicken thighs which you can get in most local Tescos - only £3 for a kilo. Primacy isn't one of those Tesco pretend farms, they really exist in Bangor.0 -
I agree with Zola that the quality of the meat will be dodgy at very low prices. If you want to maintain a high protein diet, why not supplement good quality meat with other sources of protein - eggs, pulses, quinoa etc?Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs
