I may be way off the mark, but I have a really common name (first name and surname!) and I do wonder if that can go against me in competitions..... I don't know why but feel it may go against me.

I can't see that having a common name can count against you, but you could 'tweak' the spelling, add an initial or use 2 names.

Eg I'm Joanne but for comps I use Jo Ann, though I use my full name for comps where I might be required to travel or provide ID.

I don't see how having a common name would make any difference to them choosing a winner, it shouldn't do if the competition is held correctly.

I've often seen people with the same surname as me win, unfortunately it isn't me though.

It can however confuse some people if you have the same Facebook name, as if they do not tag the winner and someone has the same name as someone else who has entered, they will have to work out which one was drawn and let the other person down.

It can also however make a difference if you google your name and congratulations or Facebook search your name with Congratulations to see if you are the winner, as more people's stuff will appear and if you are like me and have a famous name, you will get loads of famous people's stuff instead.
