Is a salary supposed to be the same amount every month or is it calculated by days worked?

Are salaries paid at the same amount regardless of how many days you work a month? Should it always be the amount same at the end of each month regardless of how many days there are in a month, or are salaries meant to be worked out daily? For example, if there is 30 days in one month, and 28 in another, would the salary amount still be the same?
The accountant at my work is calculating by day, since there's only 20 working days this month, I'm £100 short on my paycheck. Aren't salaries a fixed amount every month? Or is it correct that she's working out how many days I work in the month despite being on a salary? If this is the case, I'm not getting my set annual salary in full as each month I'm not being paid in full.

Most companies simply divide the annual salary by the number of paydays in the year, so you would get 12 or 13 equal payments depending on whether they pay monthly or 4 weekly. I never worked anywhere that calculated payment on the number of working days but I don't suppose it's illegal to do so. You need to check with the HR / payroll department of your company to understand how they operate. We can only guess.0

As has been said, unusual but certainly not against the law. The important thing is that it is done correctly and what you say suggests that it may not be. If you take the annual salary and divide by 12 and pay it each month or you take the annual salary and divide by the number of working days in each year then pay for each of those days in each month then at the year end the same will have been paid. You would need to work to several decimal places and even then the final result might vary a little bit due to rounding but nothing significant.

It could be that you are accruing holiday, e.g. your paid holiday allowance is 21 days, and you are not working on bank holidays and have not asked to be paid holiday for those days.
So if you need that 100 quid you might need to specifically ask them if you can take the extra days as paid holiday from your annual allowance.0 -
