Interview and job offer whilst on sick leave

I need some advice pls!!! I’m currently on sick leave from my job as I recently lost a close family member very recently and have taken it prettt badly. During my sick leave I was headhunted and have applied for another job, which I really want. I have an interview coming up and have been told it’s likely I’ll get the job. I have two issues..... references, I have to add my current employer. Can I put my managers name down without permission and secondly, if I am offered the job, am I within my rights to accept it, though I’ll still officially be on sick leave.

Going backwards, yes you can accept a job whilst signed off sick. Yog can put anyone's name as a referee you want - but if you don't have their agreement, don't be surprised if they refuse it or say something you weren't expecting, such as "i'm amazed Shrek is well enough to interview since he isn't well enough to come to work"! It's good manners to ask first, and being off sick doesn't suspend normal practice or manners.

Have you considered that your sick leave may impact on your prospects if they don't know you are off sick?

Why don't you just go back to work tomorrow? Given you are job hunting and interviewing you are probably well enough to work?

By the time you get an actual job offer you will be working again. They may do a bit of math and say you might have applied when off sick, but they wouldn't be certain and would probably let it go.
