What's the 4th side on my grater for?!

Slightly dim question probably - but I know someone on here will know instantly!

It's something that has long since confused me - the fourth grating edge on m'grater.

There's a coarse and fine "normal" grating side, there's what I presume is a slicing side - but what is the other side for?

It looks like a really big version of my nutmeg grater - is that what it's for maybe?

I obviously have nothing better to worry about!

Yes, that's what it's for. My mum used to use it for grating citrus rind -it was rubbish for that mind you. you had to run a knife along the lines to get the rind out.
  • Aha! Thankyou!

If you wrap greaseproof paper round your grater then grate citrus peel it doesn't get stuck in the wee holes and weirdly the paper doesn't disintegrate either.Works everytime.

    Clever tip ;)

Thank goodness for microplane graters though -much better for citrus peel, nutmeg and parmesan.

Could always use it for the hard skin on your heels LOL
Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree! :D

Would that be before or after you've grated the parmesan?

Hell, doesn't matter - it'll be cheesy anyway :rotfl:
