Capquest

I have today received a letter from Nationwide and Capquest/Arrow? saying that I owe over £200 on an account that I no longer use nor have a card to do so which I lost well over a year ago and I know for a fact there was no DD's or anything coming out of the account for me to be behind. I did get the card trapped in a cash machine and forgot about getting back but even then I have heard nothing from my bank ever regarding that account and I assumed they had closed it which I know they do when an account is not being used etc. This is the first thing I have heard about this and apparently with me apparently owing money. What do I do? What can I do? I am tempted to write a letter/phone them telling them that I am unaware of any money owed as I have not used it. I have looked online about the company and believe it may be a scam? I am also going to double check and look for old bank statements just so I can put my mind at ease. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Brights9 and welcome to the forum
Have you checked your bank statements (online or paper) to check what has been happening with the account over the past year or so? Maybe you forgot about something (a transaction)?I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.

I am going to double check my statements tonight but am 99% sure that I owe nothing and the 1% is playing on my mind until I know for certain.0

Capquest/arrow global, are major players in the debt purchasing industry, so this is not a scam.
Most likely scenario here is that a possible failed transaction have caused bank charges to accrue, you should never assume anything where account closures are concerned.
